Introduction :
Effective communication between healthcare professionals is critical for timely and effective treatments. It should be delivered clearly and promptly. Discontinuation of communication among healthcare professionals can be fatal to patients.
There were 2 medication incidents reported in 2022, which were related to communication. Current communication tool can be reviewed and redesigned to facilitate the communication process and minimise misunderstanding. Thus, a CQI program was carried out this year.
Objectives :
1.To promote effective communication between medical staff and nursing staff. 2.To promote effective communication between Radiology department and ward staff.
Methodology :
This program was carried out with the opinions contributed from a medical officer by collecting and reviewing the existing communication sheets in the Orthopaedics department. A new checklist was developed with the contents according to the common issues identified from the existing communication sheet. The effect of the checklist will be evaluated by a pilot study by comparing 1. pre & post responding rate from medical officers. 2. pre & post number of reminder used. Data will be collected from December 2022 to March 2023.
Also, a reminder was developed for the Radiology staff to communicate directly with the case doctor when there is any enquiries related with the investigation. The effect of the reminder will be evaluated by reviewing the incident reported between December 2022 to March 2023.
Result & Outcome :
Calculations of the collected data will be held in April 2023. And the evaluation of the effectiveness of new implementations will be done by June 2023.
