Introduction :
The Urology Health Talk in Prince of Wales Hospital which was established by Division of Urology in Department of Surgery and The Health Resource Centre in Prince of Wales Hospital since 2017. It provides a platform for the patient with newly diagnosed Ca Prostate and Ca Bladder to improve their knowledge and understanding about the disease and the treatment options by conducting a health talk in group based and experiences sharing by patient support group members. Patient experienced a positive attitude toward the diseases and treatment after attending the Urology Health Talk. With the COVID-19 pandemic, the Urology Health Talk was suspended due to avoid the potential exposure risks for patients and their family members in hospital. With the lacking of the knowledge and without the support from patient support group members. The patient is lacking of motivation toward the disease. Hence, the virtual Urology Health Talk was set up since December 2020.
Objectives :
(1) Improve patients’ understanding about the disease and enhance sharing of curative pathway and caring experience among peers.
(2) Facilitate psychosocial support among patient and patient support group members so as to promote a positive attitude toward Ca Prostate and Ca Bladder care in their future life.
(3) Committed to help patient and carer along every steps of the patient journey.
Methodology :
After being diagnosed Ca Prostate and Ca Bladder, patients and their family members are recruited to join the Virtual platform with Zoom conferencing for Urology Health Talk to have general cognition about the etiology and treatment options of the disease. Patient satisfactory level is evaluated and recorded by surveys to measure the outcome.
Result & Outcome :
Between December 2020 to Decmeber 2021, a total of 96 patients fulfilled the inclusion criteria were recruited for Urology Patient Health Talk. A satisfactory survey used a scale from level 1-6 (from very disagree to very agree). In which, (42.9 %) Family member joined the Health talk with patient ;(100% marked level 5 or above with agree to very agree) Enhanced the knowledge toward disease ; (100% marked level 5 or above with agree to very agree) Enhanced the knowledge toward treatment option; (57.1% marked level 5 or above with agree to very agree) Lessen the pressure toward the disease after support member sharing.;( 57.2% marked level 5 or above with agree to very agree) Be confident toward disease and treatment after support group member sharing.
Conclusion:
According to the above recorded percentage, patients who have attended the urology Health Talk could maintain a positive attitude and enhance the knowledge toward the disease by using the Virtual Health Talk during the COVID -19 Pandemic
