Introduction :
Pressure injury is one of the nursing quality indicators identified by the Hospital Authority Head Office (HAHO) to monitor the quality of patient care (HAHO, 2019). In the 1st quarter of 2020, our ward had an increased number of cases of pressure injury. There were 5 pressure injury cases developed during the patient’s hospitalization from 1/1 to 31/3/2020. Besides, the KCC guideline (2020) for Prevention and Management of Pressure Injury in Adult Patients was reviewed on 11/2020. There is a need to review and update our staff knowledge.
Objectives :
(1)Enhance the knowledge of prevention and management of pressure injury of all staff including nurses and patient care assistants
(2)Educate nurses on the pressure injury staging and dressing materials
(3)Reduce the risk of developing new pressure injury or worsening of pressure injury during hospitalization
Methodology :
(1)A pre and post educational talk quiz to nurses and patient care assistants
(2)Educational talk given to nurses
(3)Educational talk given to patient care assistants
(4)Perform demonstration by ward Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) and return demonstration of turning position by patient care assistant
Result & Outcome :
There were 18 nurses and 11 PCAs included in the program and conducted the pre and post educational talk quiz. The quiz result raised from 60% to 96% of correct answers in the nurses. All PCAs have a significant improvement from 72% in pre quiz increased to 100% in post quiz. Positive verbal feedback was received from nurses and PCAs. They agreed that the program apart from enhanced their knowledge on preventing and managing pressure injury, but also to raise their awareness to prevent pressure injury which make them more confident to handle this problem in a clinical setting. According to our ward Pressure Injury Monthly Report, there is no record of pressure injury developed after admission since the implementation of CQI.

Through the educational talk, workshop and questionnaires, it enhances the staff’s knowledge on managing pressure injury and increases their awareness of the importance of pressure injury prevention. Early identification and appropriate actions can be initiated to any change in pressure injury condition and complications (Coleman, Nixon, Keen, et al.,2014). The program is not an end but a way to maintain the care quality continuously.
