Introduction :
Electronic health record is the digital format of patient health information that shared across different healthcare setting by authorized users. E-vital captures patient’s state of vital signs across the time. Smart Panel is the electronic bed-panel displaying patient’s care alert and vital signs. Tung Wah Eastern Hospital (TWEH) Stroke Ward is the pilot in HKEC to implement the systems under the HA Smart Hospital Program.
Objectives :
To implement Smart Panel and E-vital in TWEH Ward DE2 at 3Q2021.
Methodology :
A hospital multidiscipline working group was formed in May 2021. Budget planning, procurement progress and facilities readiness were discussed with HAHO project team. Timeline was set up for deliverable monitoring on schedule. Staff engagement activities were conducted to facilitate the embracement of new practice.
Result & Outcome :
The hardware installation, staff training and production drill were accomplished according to the schedule. Dataset and workflow to delineate systems application under different situation including emergency were finalized after staff consultation. The Smart Panel & E-vitals were fully implemented in 4 months from preparation. Two handwritten observation charts were replaced by electronic display. More coordinated and efficient care was delivered by multidiscipline health professionals as the vital signs information were available instantly in the bedside smart panel, hand-held tablet and desktop. The transcription error was prevented by automatic feed of data from CMS. Efficient diagnosis was rendered as the features of smart scoring and aberration reference alert the healthcare professionals when patient’s vital signs are out of range. The electronic bed-panel display and Vital signs tracking facilitate the clinical workflow and safer care is provided to patients. The smart scoring features in the decision support system can further be developed to provide up-to-date medical knowledge reminders or other actions that aid the decision making to improve quality process and clinical outcome.
