Introduction :
Printed version of physiotherapy postnatal exercise pamphlets has been distributed to patients with face-to-face teaching in Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) for years to facilitate their recovery. However, for patients especially those discharged over the weekend without face-to-face teaching session, it is difficult for patients to understand the exercise with reference to pictures in printed pamphlet alone. Electronic pamphlets are easily accessible and motion graphics of the exercise can be shown. Patients can easily understand the exercise with visual guidance and it is more convenient to be used. It is also an environmentally-friendly measure in delivering educational materials.
Objectives :
To evaluate the effectiveness in facilitating the patient to access the postnatal exercise information and follow the exercise with motion graphic in electronic pamphlet
Methodology :
This study was carried out in postnatal ward in PMH. Patients who are able to use smartphone with internet access are recruited. Patients who are medically unstable and Non-Chinese language users will be excluded. Patients will be given usual pamphlet and QR code to access the electronic pamphlet which has motion graphic in illustrating the exercises. Patient Satisfaction Survey will be distributed to collect the feedback.
Result & Outcome :
32 subjects were recruited from December 2021 to January 2022. All subjects agreed (41% strongly agree, 59% agree) the electronic pamphlet can enhance their understanding in postnatal exercise. There were 97% of subjects agree (53% strongly agree, 44% agree) the electronic pamphlet is more convenient to use. There were 94% of subjects agree (53% strongly agree, 41% agree) using motion graphics in teaching the exercise is easier for them to understand. There were 94% of subjects agree (38% strongly agree, 56% agree) that using electronic pamphlet will increase their incentive in doing the postnatal exercise. All subjects agreed printed pamphlet should be replaced by electronic pamphlets. Among those who agreed, 63% of them think it is more environmentally-friendly and 50% of them think that it is easier to understand the postnatal exercise.
Using QR code to access electronic pamphlets has received positive feedback in this preliminary study as it is more convenient to use and facilitates patients to do postnatal exercise. Long term use of electronic pamphlet can be considered for delivering the postnatal educational materials.
