Introduction :
Patient education is an important responsibility for cardiac nurses to facilitate patients and/or their carers to go through the panic when the patients had undergone PCI or PPM/ICD implantation. However, most of the time, they are presenting overwhelmed and failed to recall the loads of information after a period of time. They might even lost the education materials given before and display poor self-care management in daily life.
Objectives :
1. Develop QR code for Patient education material 2. Enhance patient’s self-empowerment and encourage them taking a more active role in their self-care. 3.Minimize complication and unnecessary re-hospitalization due to knowledge deficit
Methodology :
1. The prepared education information is transcribed and converted into QR code card. 2. For concerned cardiac patients with PCI or PPM/ICD implantation who had smart phones/electronic devices would advise to obtain related information through scanning the code 3. They are encouraged to review the information regularly at their convenience at any time and dates.
Result & Outcome :
Since the program was started on 1/9/2021 and till 1/12/2022, we had total delivered 253 QR code cards to patients/their carers. After giving the tele conversation follow up, we had received 229 feedbacks on the satisfaction surveys. In each question, we asked about the agreement on the status with options of “Total agree”, “Agree”, “No comment”, “Not agree” and “Total not agree”
220 patients/their carers (96%) total agree or agree that the QR code card is easy to use and open the file. The remaining 6 patients/their carers (3%) had no comment and 2(1%) of them disagree or total disagree. 214 patients/their carers (94%) total agree or agree that they would pass/send the QR code to other family members. The remaining 15 patients/their carers (6%) claimed they had no comment and none of them total disagree or disagree. 206 patients/their carers (90%) total agree or agree the QR card is more convenient to read as compared with the traditional pamphlet. The remaining 18 patient/the carers (8%) showed no idea on this issue and 5 patients/their carers (2%) showed total disagree or disagree. Also, 204 patients/their carers (89%) total agree or agree that the QR card is easier to keep as compared with the traditional pamphlet. The remaining 17 patient/carer (7%) expressed no idea on this issue and 8 patients/their carers (4%) showed total disagree or disagree. When asked about would using the QR code enhance their will to read the education material when compared with traditional pamphlet, the result was far more positive compared to the date we get before. 208 patients/their carers (90%) showed total agree or agree. 20 of them (9%) showed no comment and 1 candidate (1%) showed disagreement. From their feedback, the reason for they showed no comment or disagreement is still they think they would read the education materials once they want/need to no matter it was the traditional pamphlet or the QR code card. Lastly, 209 candidates (91%) total agree or agree this QR code card could enhance the knowledge about their situation. 20 candidates (9%) claimed they had no comment on it and none of them showed total disagree or disagree. These results showed that this CQI program could definitely enhance patients’ education and is a more effective and convenient education method could be achieved.
