Introduction :
Under COVID-19 Pandemic, a modification and standardization of infection control measures in gym session training was introduced to maintain and reduce the possibility of infection risk among patients during training.
Objectives :
To enhance PT Gym session training with standardised infection control measures and maintain patients service with adequate social distancing under Covid-19.
Methodology :
1) Tailor made screens and shields between individual training equipment were installed in PT department gyms since the outbreak of Covid-19 to facilitate patients exercise training in limited space. 2) To avoid overcrowding in gym training, liaison with ISS team for the transportation of patient with session time extended to ease the flow of patients and facilitate equipment disinfection procedure.
Result & Outcome :
1) With the consideration of the infection control and social distancing of patients during training, originally there would be 40% of case numbers being affected and patients were expected to reduce gym session treatment time or frequency. Data collection was done from Jan to Mar 2021, under the new modification of gym arrangement, the total time of 12 gym sessions per day in Physio Department were extended and patient number of each session could be maintained (increased from 12 to 17 patients after adding shield and with session extension) without sacrificing the patient treatment time and frequency. 2) >90% Patient satisfaction attained on overall gym cleanliness and infection control measures. 3) Audit on equipment cleansing with fluorescent dye was conducted in Mar 2021, overall >94% of cleanliness of equipment was found.
