Introduction :
Training is a crucial element for keeping the standard of the Sterile Service Department. Different training courses were arranged internally for SSD staff to attain the necessary competency standard. For example, Tier I In-house training was mandatory for every new joiner and refresher to acquire the basic concept of decontamination science; Autoclave operator training was held to train potential staff to operate autoclave with sufficient knowledge of sterilization principle. Given that some of the staff might be absent from certain training courses or require a revision, Training Management System was developed as a training platform to facilitate their self-learning better. It comprised all the training videos and assessment quiz of related courses for their access.
Objectives :
1.To provide a training platform for staff to self-educate using the training videos.
2.To assign designated training curriculum to individual staff
3.To record the training progress of individual staff
Methodology :
Visual basic for application (VBA) of Microsoft Access was used to develop NTWC SSD Training Management System. Training videos were recorded via Zoom during in-house training courses, and they were categorized into different course types and uploaded to the system accordingly. Recommended training videos were sorted by rank or individual staff to cater to staff necessity. Staff would receive individualized support and follow a customized training curriculum. The system could summarize staff training records, assessment results, and completion status for management staff to track individual staff’s training progress.
Result & Outcome :
Results:
By using Training Management System as the training platform, staff could easily access training material anytime. They could review their curriculum or even refer to other training videos assigned to them for self-education and development. They could even choose a specific topic to check as many times as they wanted if they would like to be more familiar with a certain topic. Besides, it became easier for management staff to monitor all staff training progress through the training record and assessment results.
Conclusion:
Apart from the in-house training course, an online training platform was created in NTWC SSD for staff development. With the easy accessibility and flexibility of the Training Management System, all staff could complete their online training curriculum efficiently to enhance their proficiency in sterile service delivery. Furthermore, this system could record all the training activities of individual staff for review and evaluation of their career development. It served as a practical tool for management staff to supervise internal staff training.
