Introduction :
For the past ten years, due to a shortage of nursing professionals, many nations are currently experiencing a crisis. (WHO 2022). The heavy workloads and insufficient resourcing, burnout, and stress are the drivers for nurses’ turnover and leaving. To address this issue and its potential effects on the public healthcare system, several nations have been making significant efforts to expand the number of registered nurses. In our Family Medicine & Primary Health Care Department (FM&PHC) of Hong Kong West Cluster, we identified the presence of a severe turnover of 25.8% of nurses during 2021-2022. In response to the critical shortage of qualified registered nurses working in FM&PHC, a comprehensive training program “the Orientation and Induction Program Training for New Joined Nurses” is developed for nurse retention.
Objectives :
This program aims to provide a tool, evidence-based strategies, and resources to ensure the competence of new staff in clinical practice. We hope that this training program can enhance and standardize the performance of newly joined nurse working in FM&PHC to provide quality care.
