Introduction :
The Haven of Hope Preceptorship Education (HOPE) Program is a comprehensive orientation and induction program which tailor-made for newly graduated nurses who join Haven of Hope Hospital (HHH). The training program is revamped in 2021 and consists of Core and Enhanced Modules which aim at enhancing the clinical competency of newly graduated nurses; and a Graduation and Re-Union Program also developed to build up their personal growth and stress resilience.
Objectives :
To enhance clinical competency of newly-graduated nurses and build up sense of belonging of being a nurse in HHH.
Methodology :
The HOPE Program is a two-year program consists of 12-day of core module, 2-day of enhanced module, 1 day of graduation day and 1 day of re-union day.

For the core module, each day would be conferred with a theme and strung together as patient journey from admission to discharge, newly-graduated nurses would be equipped with profound knowledge and clinical competencies via various means such as hands-on workshops and simulation-based trainings.
For the enhanced module, newly-graduated nurses would be able to enrich knowledge and skills, as well as foster personal resilience via lectures and scenario-based trainings.
For the graduation and re-union day, elements of personal growth and reflection, understand of professional development in HHH and strengthen the sense of belongings were also included via games and group sharing.
Result & Outcome :
A pre-test and post-test were used as a tool for the level of knowledge after the completion of core module, a significant increase from 74% to 81% can be observed.
In view of the overall satisfactory level for the program, it was 5.58 out of 6 (93%).
More importantly, the participants rated the simulation-based trainings and skill stations at 5.9 out of 6 (98%), with feedback about lengthen the duration of respective trainings. They found that simulation-based trainings and skill stations were the most useful method of consolidating learning and developing clinical reasoning by enabling linking of different aspects of the theory.
In conclusion, the HOPE Program can provide comprehensive and interacted trainings to newly-graduated nurses and effectively enhance their clinical competency and increase their sense of belonging of being a nurse in HHH.
