Introduction :
The conventional A&E admission registration process is complex with involvement of multiple stakeholders and procedures. A smart project has been carried out to enhance accuracy and efficiency while downsizing the required workforce. A taskforce was formed in June 2021 to review the following steps to identify areas for improvements:
1. A&E nurses initiate the emergency admission registration;
2. A&E nurses copy the relevant documents required;
3. A&E nurses arrange supporting staff to pass documents to A&E Registration Counter;
4. HIRO staff perform inpatient registration, communicate with wards for ward assignment and prepare medical record folder; &
5. A&E staff need to wait outside A&E Registration Office for HIRO staff to prepare patient admission folder

The taskforce explored a system to optimize and streamline the A&E admission & registration process.
Objectives :
Simplify the process of admission registration for over 2100 cases per month in TMH AED by the smart electronic dashboard.
Methodology :
The all new smart electronic dashboard (eAdmission)
Result & Outcome :
In order to smoothen communication between AED and HIRO in the admission registration workflow, a series of trainings were launched. Hundreds of relevant staffs received trainings for enhancing their understandings and hence compliance.

To this end, a new eAdmission Dashboard was kicked off in Dec 2022 in A&E Department in TMH:

An electronic platform with clinical dashboard was developed to enhance communication between HIRO and AED. It has streamlined the procedures for patient admission registration. The status of admission registration is clearly shown on the platform so that the process may be easily supervised and manpower may be readily optimized. The logistics of the document preparation and collection is simplified and as the platform would notify the supporting staff when the documents are ready. The handling of the admission document through the system has also been proven to be effective and accurate even with hundreds emergency admissions daily.

The taskforce will further extend the smart project to other A&E departments in the cluster. In order to further enrich the value on inter-hospital admitting case in the next phase, and as one of enabler of paperless AED. We aim to identify more smart projects to enhance patient quality & efficiency in the departments of A&E, NTWC.
