Introduction :
Pneumonia is the major medical complication following strokes (stroke associated pneumonia, SAP). It was proven as preventable complication, which directly associated with higher mortality, morbidity, early readmission, extended hospital stay and hospitalization cost. It is obvious that early intervention to patient with high risk of SAP is valuable to patient, care giver and healthcare providers.

Despite of general intervention related to hospital acquired pneumonia prevention which has been implemented for many years in Kowloon West Cluster’s hospitals, SAP reduction program is crucial to develop. Implementation of evidenced-based practice in SAP reduction program across stroke unit would be beneficial to all stockholders with higher patient coverage.
Objectives :
1. Decreased SAP rate in ASU

2. Increased patient, nurse, Patient-care assistants (PCAs) awareness on prevention of SAP.

3. Updated ward staff knowledge and current practices against SAP.

4. Promoted evidence-based practice in clinical area
Methodology :
SAP reduction program was implemented from Jan 2022 by bundle of interventions including early dysphagia screening, frequent oral hygiene care and positioning. The data was retrospectivity reviewed in terms of SAP rate, which were compare with general intervention from pre-interventional period.

The cases were selected by A2DS2 score, which was developed by Dr. Sarah Hoffmann (Consultant Neurologist, Department of Neurology, NeuroCure Clinical Research Center, Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin)
Result & Outcome :
Significantly decreased SAP rate in ASU after implementation of the program. (Pre SAP rate = 9.79% VS Post SAP rate: 5.97%)
