Introduction :
At 5th wave of COVID starting in early 2022, there were outbreaks in most of them RCHE in Hong Kong. More than half of the elderly in RCHE got infected by COVID, which caused flooding to AED in different clusters. In 2/2022, RAT clinic was set up in HKWC to see those COVID PCR or RAT (Rapid antigen test) positive patients in RCHE via Zoom. Oral anti-viral treatment would be started for them if indicated.
Objectives :
To provide prompt care to the RAT +ve elderly in RCHE aiming to reduce AED attendance
Methodology :
Workflow for HKWC RCHE Residents with Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) +ve and/or PCR +ve was established at the beginning of 5th wave of COVID. In 2/2022, RAT clinic was set up by HKWC CGAT team to see these patients in RCHE via Zoom. Anti-viral treatment or symptomatic treatment would be started for them if indicated. Medication could be taken by OAH staff on the same day. These patients would then be followed up by doctors for 2 consecutive days after diagnosis of COVID or any new symptoms requiring doctor assessment.
Result & Outcome :
More than 5000 consultations were provided by HKWC CGAT team to RCHE COVID PCR or RAT +ve patients. Oral anti-viral medications were started in more than 80% of them after these treatments were available in 3/2022. Their QMH AED attendance was mostly prevented.
