Introduction :
There were clustering of MDRO in Fung Yiu King Hospital (FYKH) medical ward in 2Q2022 when compared to the past. Environmental Screening in Share Use Items also yielded MDRO. It may cause significant outbreak if left unattended. Therefore, in Jul 2022, a working group of MDRO reduction was formed in FYKH.
Objectives :
To Reduce of prevalence of MDRO in FYKH
Methodology :
In Jul 2022, a multidisciplinary working group was formed in FYKH. Improvement plans for environmental disinfection and other infection control measures involving different parties were established. Hand hygiene in 5 moments have been reinforced to all parties and regular direct observe hand hygiene was performed. Doctors would minimize the use of big gun antibiotic. For nursing staffs, concept of PPE, patient placement and shared items disinfection was reinforced and anti-septic bath will be applied to all patients. For supporting staffs, 2 of them would be chosen randomly for auditing cleansing technique each month. Facility management team will aid to perform Environmental Decontamination Audit in FYKH monthly. Infection control team would perform environmental monitoring program for patient used items and regular audit such as hand hygiene audit, napkin round audit and contact precaution audit.
Result & Outcome :
The improvement plans were carried out smoothly in 3Q 2022. With the above measures, the MDRO prevalence in FYKH in 3Q2022 was significantly improved by reducing more than 50% when compared to 2Q2022.
