Introduction :
The old medical gas cylinder transport cart is not convenient to exchange gas cylinders which results in low efficiency and increases the potential injury for staff. Therefore, the design of the new transport cart is aimed to improve the way of replacing medical gas cylinders, providing a security, flexibility, and efficient environment for staff.
Objectives :
(1) Provide a simple, safe, and user-friendly way to exchange the medical gas cylinder. (2) The new transport cart can be suitable for different medical apparatus. (3)Improve the efficiency and quality of handling the device.
(4) By using of new transport cart to remind staff about the importance of Occupational Safety Health.
Methodology :
Design a new transport cart and send it to the manufacturer. Operating instructions should be written and filmed, and instructing videos will be uploaded to the iPads and department website which staff will be able to learn and use it.
Arrange an in-service training program for all nurses and operating room assistants every week, two days per week and 2 hours each day. Return demonstration and study assessment are used for collecting data from the evaluation by using google Forms and for improvement.
Result & Outcome :
Results:
From 27 September 2022 to 31 December 2022, 100 nursing staff and 29 operation room assistants were trained. After the return demonstration, 93% can individually manipulate the new transport cart. The evaluation from Google Forms showed that 92% of staff agreed the new transport cart can reduce injury from handling. Moreover, 95% of staff believed it is more secure and saves effort compared to before.
Conclusions:
A new medical gas cylinder transport cart was designed to improve the safety and efficiency of staff. It is a simple and easy way that staff is willing to use it.
Ensuring employee safety is in the best interest of the organization.
