Introduction :
Twindemic by Influenza and COVID-19 could have catastrophic impact to health care service demand in winter surge period. Seasonal influenza vaccination is a safe and effective way to prevent influenza outbreak and its complications, patients in BBH/SCH/SH are mostly frail elderly, they are end-of-life cases, cancer patients under palliative care and psychiatric patients with high cross infection rate. Our goal of the programme is to protect our patients and to promote staff vaccination.
Objectives :
The GVP programme was set to promote the vaccination among all staff in BBH/SCH/SH. The aims of the programme were:
1) Educate staff on their mission to protect patients via self GVP vaccination;
2) Facilitate staff to get the vaccination at their most convenient time and desire location;
3) Enhance patient safety in BBH/SCH/SH.
Methodology :
GVP Ambassador scheme
We had invited a total 220 ambassadors to promote the programme and liaise with our vaccination booking. The scheme based on the buddy-buddy idea, therefore, higher influential power within the team.
Vaccination on wheel (VOW) and pop-up booth
By taking the essence of the meal on wheel, our VOW could go to our staff at their desire time and location so that they are not separated from their work. Beside, Pop-up Station was set in high traffic area to provide a staff-centered service for facilitation.
Equipped staff with updated knowledge
Our vaccination hotline was setup to enhance communication and to facilitate staff to obtain updated information on GVP. We would also arrange related health education talk to individual department if needed.
Incentives for staff with GVP vaccination
To recognize staff’s commitment to promote patient safety and maintaining own health. We prepared a spray bottle and GVP pin as souvenir.
Result & Outcome :
According to the GVP 21/22 HA Staff On-site Injection Statistics, we had achieved an overall vaccination rate of 101.3%/79.4%/74.6%, which were the top three hospitals among HA.
According to the preliminary injection statistics for 22/23, we achieved 101.4%/72.8%/78% vaccination rate so far. It had proved our strategies are effective and well accepted by our staffs.
