Introduction :
North Lantau Hospital (NLTH) is one of the designated hospital for COVID-19 during 5th pandemic wave in Hong Kong. There are a number of staff from various departments such as operation theater to the ward settings clinical area. Most of the nursing staff in NLTH for deployment are comparatively green. There are some high risk nursing procedures and infection control workflows specific for the Covid-19 wards that the staff must equipped. An electronic orientation package was then developed for them.
Objectives :
A smart orientation program is provided to the deployed staffs to equip the Covid-19 information. The orientation program used to increase the staff preparedness, competency and skills enhancement for the deployment to the Covid-19 ward. Prevent information discrepancy by using a well organized electronic folder with regular update. Use the QR code to access the paperless training materials to eliminate paper documents disinfection issue. Keep the sustainability of orientation program with user friendly record system with timely update.
Methodology :
A web site (with QR code generated) has been created to gather all the necessary information for the staffs to access. A Pre Test was provided to each participant. Training sessions with orientation checklists then provided to the staffs. Demonstration of High Flow Oxygen Nasal Cannula (HFNC) also given in the program. A Post Test & Evaluation was performed by each participant after Self Study completed.
Result & Outcome :
The target staffs are the staffs who are on job rotation and new comers. Pre-test total response is 12 and the post-test & evaluation response is 11. The working experience over 3 years is 25%, 1-3 years is 58% and less than 1 year is 17%. The percentage of the correct answer of the knowledge based test was improved from 25-66.7% to 54.5-90.9%. While the familiarization of the ward setting, PPE donning & doffing, HFNC & knowledge of resuscitation showed significant improvement in the self-rating scale for agree in pretest about 10% increased to more than 60%. 63.6% agreed that the information of the site page can help to prepare themselves if needed to deploy to Covid-19 ward. 81.8% agreed that the orientation program can help to be more competent to care patients in the Covid-19 ward settings.
