Introduction :
App-based training allows people to access content anytime and anywhere, as the content is easily accessible and always there on the smartphone. A corporate training app gives staff quick access to the information they need at all times, even during workflow. When training is accessible, users are more committed to completing it, hence resulting in a higher course completion rates. In TKOH, a local training app was designed to facilitate new nurse learning with positive feedback.
Objectives :
To provide a customized training app for new nurses (preceptees) and facilitate digital recording of their assessment result.
Methodology :
A web-based mobile app, named “T-Class” was developed and launched in TKOH for the Preceptorship Program in 2022. All newly recruited fresh nurse graduates were registered as the app users and able to retrieve training resources, such as training videos on nursing procedures and practice guidelines in the app. Aimed to go green and facilitate digital recording of training profile, the system incorporated the Preceptorship Program Assessment Logbook. New nurses could complete the competency assessment and supervised practice record online via the app, while the nurse mentors may access the record of their mentees and providing timely feedback for the learning progress of their mentees.
Result & Outcome :
In 2022, a total of 106 preceptees were registered as the app users, including 61 and 43 new nurses graduated from 2021 and 2022 respectively. Moreover, around 30 nurse seniors (Clinical Preceptors / Teachers) were granted mentor access right for this learning app (T-Class) for timely monitoring of the preceptees learning progress. During the initial implementation period, user feedbacks were collected and app layout design was modified to fit user’s preference. After 6-month of trial, both preceptees and mentors were satisfied with the app performance, and the hard copy of Preceptorship Program Logbook was obsoleted for environmental friendly purpose since then.
