Introduction :
One of patient group in Tai Po Hospital (TPH) is patients with Low Back Pain (LBP) but without any surgical intervention. National clinical guidelines (Stochkendahl et al, 2017) for non-surgical treatment of patients suggested that patients are advised to remain active and supervise exercise. Information and education are important. In addition, use of tele information was more common and was encouraged in current practice and education. Information and education materials with the use of tele information in HA go and video-guided exercise were prescribed so as to empower patients, improve patient’s confidence in managing LBP, maximize patient’s ability and reduce length of stay.
Objectives :
To standardized current physiotherapy practice in young non-surgical LBP patients. To empower patients and improve patient’s confidence in managing LBP. To maximize patient’s ability and reduce length of stay.
Methodology :
Patients with less than 60 years old, non-surgical treatment of LBP patients and able to use smartphone were recruited. Educational pamphlet was provided to patients. Contents included back care information, QR codes of the video-guided back exercise and back care education video prescribed in HA go. Outcome measures included MFAC, NPRS, NGRCS, length of stay, questionnaire and knowledge about back care information using multiple choice questions.
Result & Outcome :
A total of 8 patients were recruited within this period. The average length of stay is 10.75 days and the average NGRCS was +5.5. Improvement was shown in patients’ MFAC, NPRS and knowledge. Average MFAC was improved from 3.875 to 5.875. Average NPRS was reduced from 6.875 to 3.625. Multiple choice question result was improved from 45% to 90%. 100% of the patients agreed the materials and videos provided could empower and improve their confidence in managing LBP.
