Introduction :
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is the infectious disease caused by the most recently discovered coronavirus. Since December 2019, the Center for Health Protection (CHP) has recorded a total of 1,128,235 and 1,293,708 cases tested positive by nucleic acid tests and RAT respectively for COVID-19, including 11,327 fatal cases. In Hong Kong, 2 types of COVID-19 vaccines, BioNTech (BNT162b2) and Sinovac (CoronVac) are available (https://www.covidvaccine.gov.hk). To offer protection against new virus variants. It is also effectively reducing the risk of severe infections. It is essential to stop the spread of virus variants at the source and exported to other countries by means of vaccination. Moreover, vaccines against COVID-19 is considered an important public health tool for containing the pandemic in the medium and long term by increasing the population immunity. Therefore, promulgation of COVID-19 vaccination is implemented in Haven of Hope Hospital (HHH).
Objectives :
To increase the COVID-19 vaccination rate of staffs and patients.
Methodology :
A variety of strategies was performed to increase uptake of COVID-19 vaccination in HHH for cultivating “Caring society”. For staff - Arrange COVID-19 vaccine depots for staff at hospital - Arrange sessions particularly for HHH staff to get jab in Community Vaccination Centre - Arrange vaccination lucky draw from 6.07.2021 to 27.07.2021 - Promulgate for staff COVID vaccination by organizing staff forum on 27.07.2021 For patient - Develop a vaccination time calculator to facilitate staff estimating the earliest date to get jab during hospitalization - Active screening for all admitted patients and regularly reviewing the eligible patients to get jab - Work out a workflow to facilitate in-patients to receive either BioNTech or Sinovac vaccine - Perform round by doctors to screen all infirmary patients for COVID-19 vaccination using an opt-out approach - Prepare “COVID-19 Vaccine Look – Look 3.0” to address on patient’s vaccination hesitancy - Arrange Sinovac vaccine depot for out-patient in SOPD
Result & Outcome :
Staffs’ uptake rate of completion of 3 doses is 99.2% as at 30.11.2022. And patients (General patients and Infirmary patients) uptake rate of completion of at least 1 dose is 86% as at 30.11.2022. Total no. of COVID-19 vaccination for in-patients is 368 (BioNTech) and 843 (Sinovac) from Dec 2021 to Nov 2022.
